The Proceedings of the 1st Scientific Conference on the Agusan Marsh held May 2007 has just been published by the UNESCO Jakarta Regional Office and the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development. (The 110,000-ha Agusan Marsh serves as catch basin for watersheds in eastern Mindanao , Philippines and reportedly stores more than 15% of the freshwater resources in the country.) Edited by Pew Fellow Jurgenne Primavera, the 126-page volume features 11 comprehensive review papers on the history, hydrology and wetland dynamics, water quality and heavy metal contamination, aquatic biodiversity, avifauna, cultural and socioeconomic dimensions, and other aspects of the Marsh. The Proceedings will be of value to researchers, policymakers, nongovernment organizations, external development agencies and local communities and stakeholders.”
